On Sunday, October 8, 2017 a wildfire started near Tubbs Lake in Calistoga, California. High winds during the blaze reached 60-70 mph fanning the flames and causing rapid progression. It is estimated that temperatures within reached 2250-2500° F and homes, which normally would take hours to burn, were gone in 10 minutes. Over 36,000 acres were burned, an estimated 5,300 structures were lost and sadly many lives as well. Champion Safe received a phone call from a local locksmith, Terry Andreasen, who was helping one of our customers gain access to his safe. Terry stated that out of over 40 safes from various manufacturers he opened for the victims, the ONLY gun safe to withstand the flames was the Champion Crown Series. As the photos show, nothing was left of the home and our safe took quite a beating. The fire crews could not get to the home to put out the flames and our safe sat in the embers for two days. When the safe was finally opened the home owner was happy to discover that his contents were still intact. There was some char damage to paper documents as the fire seals began to fail at some point during the two days but his weapons and other belongings were protected. This safe was one from our Crown Series built in 2005. Since then we have continued to make improvements on all of our safe models. We are saddened for this homeowner’s loss as well as the many others who have been affected by the 2017 Tubbs fire. Champion Safe is grateful that, in some small way, we were able to protect a few of his possessions and that our safe exceeded its expectations. Champion Safe has been protecting your valuables since 1999.
